Visitant vs Fathom Analytics

Fathom is a polished, cookie-free analytics service from Canada with unlimited data retention and 50 sites on every plan. Visitant is a cookie-free tool for shop and blog owners that adds the AI side: crawlers, assistants, and what their visitors buy. In our view: Fathom if you run many sites and want a proven, simple product; Visitant if you want funnels for $12, a free plan, and the AI loop.

  • Both set no cookies and need no consent banner; Fathom routes EU visitor data through EU infrastructure, Visitant is hosted in Poland.
  • Fathom's first plan is $15 a month for 100,000 pageviews and 50 sites, with a 7-day trial that needs a card; Visitant is $0 for 5,000 events, $12 for 100,000 and 20 sites, with a 14-day trial and no card.
  • Fathom keeps your history for as long as you subscribe; Visitant keeps 13 months on Free and 5 years on Pro and up.
  • Fathom shows AI referrals from "ChatGPT, Perplexity and more"; Visitant groups 21 assistants and also logs 44 AI crawlers on the server, which Fathom does not do.
  • Fathom has no funnels (its docs say an unlisted feature does not exist); Visitant has funnels, revenue and API on Pro.

USD, monthly billing, read at usefathom.com/pricing on 2026-09-25. Yearly billing: "2 months free". Every plan includes 50 sites (+50 for $10 a month) and full history while subscribed. Custom events count toward the pageview allowance. 7-day trial, card required. Occasional spikes are tolerated; sustained overage triggers upgrade emails and, if unresolved, can restrict dashboard access while collection continues.

The AI loop

Fathom shows which AI tools send visitors ("ChatGPT, Perplexity and more") and lets you filter the dashboard to see what those visits lead to. Visitant does the same for a published list of 21 assistants and then goes one step earlier and one step later. Earlier: a one-line server snippet records every fetch by 44 recognised AI crawlers, sorted into training, AI search and live user fetches, and checks claimed crawlers against the IP ranges their operators publish; spoofed ones are flagged. Fathom filters bots out and reports nothing about them. Later: text-fragment landings become a separate "likely AI" estimate, AI agents are kept out of human counts, and goals, funnels and revenue can be read per assistant. Fathom has revenue on events but no funnels, so "Perplexity sent 40 visits, 6 reached checkout, 2 paid" is a Visitant-only view. AI crawler hits never count toward a Visitant plan limit.

// When to pick Fathom Analytics
  • You run many small sites: 50 sites on the $15 plan; Visitant gives 20 sites on Pro and 100 on Business.
  • You want history that never expires: Fathom keeps everything while you subscribe; Visitant Free keeps 13 months.
  • You need Google Analytics history: Fathom imports GA4 data, Visitant does not yet.
  • You want a product that has been around since 2018 (in our view one of the two safest choices in this category).
// When to pick Visitant
  • You want to see AI crawlers (44 recognised, spoofed ones flagged) next to human visits; Fathom filters them out silently.
  • You need funnels: Visitant Pro has them at $12 a month, Fathom does not offer funnels.
  • You want to start at $0: Visitant Free covers 5,000 events and 2 sites with no card; Fathom's trial is 7 days and asks for a card.
  • You want a dashboard that never locks after an overage and an "Ask" box in plain English or Polish.

Questions

Can I move from Fathom to Visitant?

Fathom exports CSV; Visitant has no importer yet, so history stays in Fathom and Visitant counts from the day you add the 1.9 KB script. Most people run both for a month.

What does each tool cost at 100,000 pageviews?

Fathom: $15 a month (50 sites, unlimited history). Visitant: $12 a month on Pro (20 sites, 5 years of data, funnels, revenue, API). At 1,000,000: Fathom $60, Visitant $39 Business.

Does Fathom show AI assistant traffic?

Yes, its homepage lists AI referrals from "ChatGPT, Perplexity and more" with dashboard filtering. Fathom does not publish the full list or the launch date; Visitant publishes its list of 21 assistants in the docs.

Does Fathom show AI crawlers such as GPTBot?

No. Fathom filters out bots and crawlers and does not report them. Visitant records crawler fetches with a server snippet and checks claimed crawlers against published IP ranges.

Is there a free plan?

Visitant: yes, $0 for 5,000 events a month, 2 sites, 1 seat, 13 months of data, plus a 14-day Business trial without a card. Fathom: no free plan, a 7-day trial that requires a card.

Try it on your own data: free account, 14 days of Business, no card.
